Yorkshire Sculpture Inspiration for Landscape Printmaker

A second sketchbook trip to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park just off the M1.
Preliminary sketches for original printSketching 'Invasion' by Michael Zwingmann

The difference between the 'artists eye' and the camera lens is beautifully illustrated above. The distinct textures of trees clearly visible to Lynne merge into one in the photograph. As for the colours Lynne made a note of, the photograph gives no hint. There is a mass of information in the photograph while the sketch on the other hand distills the scene to it's key elements.

As a printmaker interested in landscape, the Yorkshire Sculpture Park holds a particular fascination. This sketching trip on a hazy warm spring day (Friday 25 March 2011) was all about becoming more familiar with the place than with developing specific ideas or themes. You can see the sketch in the photo above and others from this trip on Lynne's website.
